Ãâó: Lloyd M. Hulit, Ph.D.,(1996), Straight Talk on
Stuttering, Charles C Thomas Publisher. p137.

The first issue we must address in considering the
treatment of adult stutterers is the meaning of the word,
"cure", as it relates to stuttering. As it is commonly used
and understood, "cure"is an absolute term. To say that
a problem, disorders, or disease is cured means that it no
longer exists, that its symptoms have been permanently
removed. If this is what we mean by "cure" in reference to
the prospects for the adult stutterer in treatment, we must
conclude that cures are very, very rare. We need to keep
in mind that stuttering is a disorder characterized by
inappropriate behaviors. It is no more appropriate to talk
about curing stuttering than it is to talk about curing
someone of being rude or curing someone of being moody.
We may shape behaviors. We may control behaviors, but the
concept underlying "cure"does not fit the treatment of
disordered behaviors.

It is more appropriate to talk about the successful
treatment of stuttering than to talk about cures. Can
adult stutterers be successfully treated? Yes, they can.
Some stutterers are so successfully treated, in fact, that
most people will not know that they have fluency problems.
That is, they have learned to control their nonfluencies
well enough and to make the physiological adjustments
necessary for facilitating fluency subtly enough that their
speech appears to be normally fluent. -ÀÌÇÏ»ý·«-
